What is Digital Switchover?

It is the process of turning off the analogue signal, with over 1,100 transmitters throughout the UK switching to a newer and stronger digital TV signal. This will offer viewers more channels and better digital services. The outcome will be that almost everyone will be able to receive Digital TV through an aerial (Freeview)

Why is there a Digital Switchover?

The Digital Switchover will enable a new TV experience. Currently the analogue signal uses much of the frequency band. The new Digital Signal will use much less, therefore allowing space for more TV channels, interactive services and soon HD TV through Freeview, and not just Sky or Freesat.

What Do I Need to Do Now?

If you have a Digital Television with built in Freeview TV tuner or Freeview receiver, with a Digital compatible TV aerial installed - then you should be ready for the Digital Switchover.

If you do not have these items, then any unconverted TV will not work after switchover.

If you already have Freesat, Sky or another digital system, then you should be ready for the Digital Switchover.

If you watch a main transmitter, you may need a wideband aerial to receive all of the available Digital TV channels once switchover occurs.

Remember, always use a Registered Digital Installer (RDI). Look for the Digital Tick which means they are trained and security checked. SSV are proud to be RDI registered!


	::	When Does Your Region Switchover? Click Here to see when your local transmitter is being switched over to Digital. In the Central TV region there are 9 transmitter groups which will switchover at different times, starting on 30th March 2011.
	::	Your Aerial You will need to assess your aerial if you choose a Digital TV service like Freeview or BT Vision. If your aerial is not in a good condition or you currently have poor reception on your analogue TV, you may need a new aerial to enjoy the benefits of Digital TV. Most homes will get more than 40 channels, and some will receive around 15. A number of households and organisations will need a wideband aerial to receive all of the available channels. Our RDI engineers will assess your current installation, and advise what you need to receive the services you want.
	::	Some Important Questions How many Televisions do you have? Each TV needs to be Digital compatible with the built in tuner or have separate Freeview receiver. What TV aerial do you have? Many aerials will work fine after switchover, however it is worthwhile contacting Sinclair Sound & Vision to ensure you are ready for switchover. Do not attempt to adjust the aerial yourself, always seek advice from a reputable aerial engineer.
